Episode 46 - Questions for The Question

Whilst Iz is away, sunning herself on exotic beaches, lazing by the pool and testing the elasticity of her trousers at the buffet, Stace enlists the help of fellow comic nerd and podcaster, Eric Martin, for this rather long and tangent-filled episode. Eric, also known as The Question on thecomicforums.com, is one half of both the DC Noise and Comics Playground podcasts.

As Stace sets the record for the number of times one person can say 'anyway' in one podcast (and there were more, now to be found only on the cutting room floor!), Eric divulges the very first comic he bought with his own money, why that one in particular caught his eye, and which comic storyline he'd erase from continuity if he could, along with a few of his favourite things.

Amongst the Reviews this episode are the Wonder Woman animated movie, North 40, Wednesday Comics, Master of Horror, Bear, Green Lantern Corps and more! Eric sets Stacey off on yet another love-filled ramble on Blackest Night, the Peeve section disintigrates into digressions galore and both Eric and Stace admit to shedding a tear over a comic.

All this, plus two jolly spiffing music nuggets, a lotta DC love and reasons why Stace would make a terrible superhero.

What's this? Comic Racks on a Wednesday?...

Yes, after far too long a time, and far too many con-related germs, Iz and Stace get together for a mid-week Racks dedicated to the awesome fun that was the British International Comics Show 2009. Although one half of the Racks didn't attend the actual show, fun times were still had by all in the pub on the night!

Listen in as Iz tells of her convention experience, while Stace tells of the immense fun of being more sober than everyone else at a party. There's face-licking, dinosaur jazz hands, and wine ahoy as the Racks take on Birmingham.

On top of that comes some awesome Rack Music, Stace's weeping upon finally seeing Up, and Iz's take on the movie Fame. All this, plus Kevin Smith, Pixies, boats, uhn tiss uhn tiss uhn tiss music and more!

The Racks go Reviews mad this fortnight with a ton of old and new comics and films including The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, PKD Media Presents, Lucifer: Volume 1, Identity Crisis (Spoilers!), new Lenore, Doomsday (Spoilers!), Starman, We Kill Monsters #1, old Deadpool, Jonah Hex: Origins, and joint reviews of Sweet Tooth #1, Gotham City Sirens #3, plus Stacey discovers the donkeys conkers that is Preacher: Volume 1, while Iz discovers Detective Comics: Batwoman :)

Another joint Top sees the birds get over-excited about District 9 and Iz gets her sections confused as Rack Music turns into a MAJOR Peeve :/

Stace battles to concentrate with impending birthday excitement and Iz struggles to make any sense with rambly reviews in the face of exhaustion :)

Episode 43 - Insomniacs

In this super-long episode, the Ladies welcome Insomnia Publications' creative director (and fellow lady nerd) Nic Wilkinson to the show by giving her a proper good grilling! Nic explains what Insomnia is, what it does, how they go about doing it and how she has learnt not to sleep in order to achieve it. Nic gives her thoughts on the compilation of anthology comics, the importance of conventions, signings, and the UK comics and publishing industry. But it's not all work and no play as the Racks discover Nic's favourite songs to play on Rock Band, her love of all things meat, and the all-important nugget of information; her favourite swear word.

As well as this delightful interview, all the usual segments are covered as Stace almost cries at being so behind in reading Walking Dead, Iz gets repeatedly jealous of Stace, and the girls get over-excited by Geoff Johns.

Reviews this episode include some sort-of-old comics in the forms of Infinite Crisis and Villains United, as well as some new stuff including The Unwritten, Red Robin and Gotham City Sirens.

The Disney-Marvel take-over is discussed (you may not have heard about it, it's not big news :P), as well other very important news stories such as the X-Men motion comic trailer, a Del Toro Deadman film in the works, and Stacey's impending 24th birthday! A-woo-hoo!

The Stand-In-Stacey-sode

After a weekâs delay, and with young Stacey now trekking around the UK in search of top entertainment, Iz finds a deputy-Stacey in the shape of SFX blogger and co-host of 'Small Press Big Mouth' podcast, Stacey Whittle.

It might be a different co-host but it's the usual amount of tangents, comic-book ramblings, and the odd bit of appreciation for pretty boys.

In the already out-of-date News, we cover last minute Sherlock Holmes casting, a new Steve Niles film adaptation, and a very spiffy competition to be a zombie in upcoming Insomnia graphic novel Damaged Goods.

Iz and deputy-Stace have an incredibly geeky chat about what they love and don't love in comics, films and tv - with tangents and rants about Superman the Movie, drunken encounters with Simon Pegg, and Keira Knightley.

Normal service will be resumed soon with the usual suspects.

Welcome to a spangly new episode of Comic Racks; insanely rambling just for you since 2007!

In this episode, the ladies attempt to do a shorter episode using alarms which don't go off properly, get ignored, or aren't set at all, resulting in this 1 hour and 45 min extravaganza!

Join the Racks as they get over-excited by Deadpool related news items, other exciting new podcasts and comics galore. Spoilertastic reviews include Batman & Robin #1, Terminator Salvation, Eekamoo, Cancertown, Pwanda,Thugs #1, Fear Agent, Chew #1 and a shedload more besides.

In the Ask The Racks section, the girls struggle to cast actors in comic movies, Stacey desperately attempts to explain Deadpool's name (and probably failed miserably) and Iz explains why superhero comics make her run away in fear. Also discussed are boobtastic manga figures, the comics that made us nerds and what catchphrases the super-awesome Comic Racks figures would have if ever they were made.

Playing out this episode is the worlds most ridiculous, offensive, foul and downright hilarious song, Skeletor VS Beastman by Gnarkill. If you value your childhood, you should probably skip this song...

Frosty, Foster and the Hangover Kid

The Racks are joined by a new Rackette - Mr Luke Foster, co-host of Nine Panel Nerds, creator of Moon Freight 3 web comic, and a very very nice chap. We reminisce with Luke about our super-cool weekends: Stacey got to "squee" (and dribble) at Maximo Park, Iz got to swoon (and dribble) at Tony Curtis, and Luke got to hang out with NYCs finest at the CNI Ep 200 recording - without dribbling.

We manage to cover a thumping amount of comic reviews including: Caretakers Uncannily Nasty Tales, Nova #25, Scott Pilgrim Vol 1, Tank Girl Remastered Vols 1 and 2, Doctor Who: The Time Machinations, Sinister Dexter, and a coupla films are thrown in for good measure too.

We actually manage to keep the episode to an hour and 44 which is a flippin miracle as we got distracted at every turn, tangenting about Jammy Dodgers, Ryan Reynolds, and attempted spider homicide.

Welcome back to Comic Racks! After a slight delay caused by convention germs, the Ladies of the Racks are back with what was supposed to be a mini-sode and turned into a 2 hour ramble fest of joy!

The main topic this episode features a rather in-depth look at the Racks' trip to Bristol for the 2009 Comic Expo, including awesome birthday gifts, a heck of a lot of Dan DiDio love, the drunkest panel ever, a shedload of new fantastic people-meetery and the world's best cure for drunkeness.

Despite a combination of both work and home technology farting in the face of the Racks, we (eventually) bring you a stupidly extra-long episode, packed with our usual confused ramblings about comic books, films, tv shows, books and pretty boys...mmmm, pretty boys :)

Although generally lacking in news, the Ladies Wot Rack more than make up for it with loads of reviews, tops and tails, tangents and a nice big chat about upcoming nerd movies they fancy (as well as actors they fancy a bit, too... ;) )

Shortest episode ever!! Through a combination of exhaustion and snot the Racks keep it brief-ish this episode - with another extended review session.

Along the way the girls argue over Gail Simone, and debate such crucial cultural issues such as dancing like a moron, snot-induced swearing...and horse cock.

Listen out for some shameless self-promotion and a charity appeal - Iz could be doing a run dressed as Wonder Woman if she reaches her target :D Good and bad news is covered - Stace is going to Bristol Con (yay!!), but Iz had to cancel Cymru Con (boo)..which leads the Racks onto plotting jumping on Geordies and Dan DiDio (but not at the same time).

A billion and three reviews are discussed and some cracking Rack Music is played - and Iz gets an extra-special voicemail at the start of the episode (swoon).

Comic Racks - Episode 31 - NYCC!!

Welcome to a super-special, super-long, super-crazy episode of Comic Racks! Join Iz and Stace as they recount their tales from the past two weeks. But which is more exciting; Iz's trip to New York Comic Con or Stace's snowman buildery? You decide!

In this rant-filled episode, Stace goes completely mental over snow, CookieShake milkshakes and imported face coffee, while Iz tries to restore some sanity to proceedings with tales of forumite kindness and the Racks debut in a real book.

Of course, Iz's attempt to be sane fails miserably during the Peeve of the Week section, where both ladies express their utter disdain for the state of TV advertising today. Who you gonna call? Not 118 as that's only half the number...

Shawn is the founder of PKD Media, creator of Mercury & the Murd, Exo-1 & the Rock Solid Steel-Bots, and many more works in progress - and is also a thoroughly nice and charming chap.
The Racks discover a kindred spirit in conversational tangents, and the interview is made up of more outakes than real content, but we do manage to have in-depth discussions on how to get into writing, self publishing, self promotion, what PKD Media are up to, what swines Diamond are, comic book film adaptations, Amy Winehouse needing a hug, and most important of all - favourite swear words and favourite type of buscuit.

Comic Racks Episode 29

In a bid to save your ears from bleeding mid-episode, the main topic (featuring quite poor sound quality clips of the Racks live from the Birmingham Hippodrome) has been shunted to the end of the episode. Listen at your own peril!

Anyhoo, this slightly shorter episode sees the girls attempt to keep their reviews to a minimum, touching on Superman Red Son, Ellis' Thunderbolts Vol 1, Proof, and Igor - of course the plan to keep it short(ish) totally goes to pot when Stace interrupts the recording to read and give an impromptu review of Secret Six #5. The Top and Tail segment sees a joint, non-comic related Top, and a Dr Who episode that did not impress Stacey :(

During the News segment, Stacey depresses everyone with talk of Diamond's new order limit, but Iz saves the day by pimping out The Uniques and a new podcast.

On top of this, Stace reveals exactly how to get her totally wasted, Iz speaks of fur muffs and they both get a little bit too excited over a certain John Barrowman and his appearance in the rather spiffy pantomime, Robin Hood. Swoon!!

Episode 28 - A Belated Happy New Year!

After muchos delay due to Christmas, New Years, sickness, coughs and technical lameness, the Racks are back for 2009, yo!â Ahemâ Anyway, in this mammoth New Years episode, the ladies tackle some important topics such as Izâs middle name, reviewing comics without having read them and making up brand new words. Stace disagrees with nearly everything Iz has to say, the girls ramble on a little too much about Christmas and New Year, and Elmo makes his Racks debut! In the news section, hear what the Racks think of the new Doctor Who, some more names get announced for Cymru Con and Stace shares some sad news regarding Bristol Con 2009â Due to the length of time between recordings, the ladies have lots of comic-y film-y TV-y (TV-y??) goodness to share in their extended reviews section. Stace finally reads and reviews Echo, Iz forgets whether sheâs reviewed Powers already or not, and the podcast strays into dangerous territory when cripple fights get mentionedâ Also covered are Spider-Man Noir #1, Doc Walloper #5, They Live!, Eagle Vs Shark and lots of other randomness! Squeeee! (Thereâs some serious spoilerage in this episode, so keep your ears out!) All this, plus Iz trashing Staceâs Rack Music pick, some terrible Irish accents and Stace singing. Again. Enjoy!

Comic Racks Episode 27 - Merry Crimble

The girls have a vague bash at embracing the Christmas spirit with the regular format slightly jazzed up with a little Crimble song specially written by Comic Racks listeners!

Stace and Iz catch up after a short Racks break and ramble about Stace seeing the Futureheads twice (squee!), Iz going to NYCC, updates on the Cymru Con 09, and the drool-fest that is the new Wolverine trailer.

Reviews include: The Lost Room, Batman RIP (spoilers), Exterminators Vol 3 and 4, Birds of Prey #124, Pineapple Express, Santa's Slay, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno plus many more. During this section Iz re-discovers her love for Sandman, 19 years after the first time she read it, and Stace plottz's over Gail Simone's Wonder Woman #26 and Seth Rogan (not at the same time thankfully).

Top of the Racks involves a lot of love for the new Wizard of Oz comic, Secret Six #4, and Crossed #1 (from Iz) and Amazing Spiderman Masterworks Vol 1 (from Stace).

In this mildly belated and yet still very special episode, the Ladies of Racksville are joined by none other than author, podcaster and all-round fun guy; Barry Nugent!

Barry, author of the rather spiffy Fallen Heroes novel and one half of our big brother podcast Geek Syndicate, takes a rather impressive grilling from the Rack Chicks, as well as ranting about Smallville (no surprises there) and deciding upon his favourite swear word. On top of this, discover how Barry got into writing, the secret origin of Geek Syndicate, and what kind of biscuit he most enjoys.

Due to the super-long (and awesome) interview with Mr Nugent, the Peeve and Rack Music segments had to be cut from this episode. However, never fear! You will find the Ladies and their guests' Rack Music choices sprinkled liberally throughout the episode. Can you guess who picked what?...

All this, plus Stacey spoiling Heroes for everyone and getting so excited during a news bit she goes super sonic, Iz getting even more fangirlish about Gail Simone and offending the special guest by pointing out the loss of his soundtrack collection, and Barry in a frilly nightie!

Welcome to this super duper mega special birthday spectacular episode of Comic Racks! That's right, because it was recently their first birthday, The Racks offer you part one of our mammoth Ask The Racks special! Huzzah!

The ladies get their spoiler heads on as they blitz through a load of reviews, including such delights as IDW's new Ghostbusters title, Secret Six, Captain Britain & MI:13, Bear, Crossed and much more. The spoilers continue as this episode's Tops and Tails are revealed, and Stacey revels in the knowledge that she's not an f-ing idiot.

In the news section, the girls actually have some news to share, and set about discussing Ham & Eggs, the Watchmen movie ending controversy, and the general lack of He-Man movie makery amongst other things.

Welcome to Episode 23, where Comic Racks will engage you with tales of squidgy fingers, job-miffs, and podcast-theivery...and then actually get on with the episode itself.

We round off with some cracking Rack Music (Clint Eastwood from Gorillaz and Cath... from Death Cab for Cutie), as well as a rather dubious Peeve...

We return to our usual disorganised âformatâ in this episode â join us as we discuss the not-so newsworthy-News, a wide ranging Reviews section, groovy Top of the Racks, very dis-similar Rack Music, and a bit of a natter about the upcoming Birmingham Con (without knowing who was doing what events/panels â which helpfully went up the day after we recorded!).

Prepare for tangents-a-go-go as we get distracted (surprise!) over Jamie Smart drawing robots hurling over nuns, Stace diving on creators, Iz going dreamy over Almost Dr Karl and his debut at BrumCon.

Comic Racks Episode 21 with Jamie Smart

In this super-duper special episode, The Ladies of the Racks get up close and personal with none other than Bear and Ubu Bubu creator and all-round cool dude, Jamie Smart!

Alas, there are no news and reviews segments, but heck, who needs those when you have a awesome interview?? Especially when said interview reveals a deep seated hatred of Jaffa Cakes, a general fear of selling oneself at conventions, a far too large amount of talk about cat porn, and the revelation that Jamie Smart smells. It's true. No, really.

Sir Jamie Smartington sticks with the girls through Rack Music, almost causing a divide in Rack City, and even puts forth a Peeve of the Fortnight. Like this podcast wasn't filled with enough vitriol ;)

All this plus girly squeals, more random swear words than you can shake a stick at and a whole lot of fun!

~ Please to note: We apologise profusely for the sound quality of this episode. Unfortunately technical difficulties minutes before recording and the Pamela program's all-round hatred of Racks fun lead to a rather muffled Jamie. We present this episode to you in the best state we could muster, and we hope to muck around with other recording programmes in order to have Jamie on again in the future. If he'll do it, that is, we were quite scary... ~

Episode 19 - Everybody Loves Paul

In this momentous episode the ladies do away with their usual format in order to bring you their very first creator interview with none other than the frankly rather awesome Paul Cornell.

Paul has dipped his toe into the wonderful world of comics on many an occasion, writing stories such as Wisdom, 2000AD's XTNCT and the currently running (and fucking brilliant) Captain Britain and MI:13 series, to name but a few. As well as working in the comics world, Paul has penned some of the best episodes of Doctor Who to grace our TV screens (Human Nature and Family Of Blood, anyone?), several Doctor Who novels and audio shows, and episodes for top series' such as Primeval, Robin Hood and Casualty.During the interview, the girls quiz Paul about his upcoming projects, whether being a writer makes watching shows/reading books more difficult from a technical point of view, and whether he's had any unnerving fan experiences (other than Stacey professing her undying love for him at Bristol Convention earlier this year, of course.)To top the episode off, we pick our Rack Music for this fortnight; both of which turn out to be rather geekily inspired as one of us riffs on a Watchmen theme while the other takes inspiration from Wisdom #3.
